DMX began to rap in the middle of the 1990s. In May 1998, he recorded his debut album, It's DARK and HOT. In the following years, he also released several albums, including ... And then There was X, the Great Depression Year of the Dog... Again The Redemption of the Beast Grand Champ and Flesh of My Flesh Blood of My Blood. His album titled ... and Then There Was X was also nominated to win an Grammy for the Best Rap Album category in 2001. His musical career was complemented by his appearances in such films such as Lords of the Street Belly Top Five - Exit Wounded Never Die Alone The Bleeding Romeo must die Backstage - Beyond the Law Lockjaw - Rise of the Kulev Serpent and Fast and Fierce Death Race.
